Caius Archive collects, documents, and provides long–term access to records illustrating the history of the College and its members. It is an important resource for researchers and a platform for periodic exhibitions on the history of the College and other themes in intellectual history.
The Archive is housed together with the College's library in the Cockerell Building, a magnificent nineteenth–century building immediately next to Caius Court. The Archive's collections span the full eight centuries of the College's life, from medieval estate records to the personal papers of modern Caians, and from parchment to the latest digital formats. They constitute a unique information and heritage resource available for consultation by Caians and the wider academic community. The Archive continues to support the administrative and legal functions of the 21st-century College.
Access
Most of the Archive's listed collections are available for consultation by researchers, free of charge. Those wishing to consult the Archive are very welcome to contact the College Archivist, James Cox, who will be pleased to answer questions regarding the holdings and the conditions of their use. Enquiries will be dealt with as soon as is possible but due to the volume of enquiries there may be a delay in replying. Appointments should be made in advance of visiting the College and researchers will be asked to provide a letter of introduction.
