Also called liber matriculationes. These books actually record admissions of students to the College, whereas matriculation is the act of registration with the University. In some cases there are names recorded in these books which do not appear in the University matriculation registers.
The practice of recording admissions was established by Dr Caius in his statutes for the refounded College in the sixteenth century. He laid down the format of the record, which includes not only the name of the student and the date, but also birthplace, age, previous education, and his father's name, address and profession.
