In 1998, an overhaul of the web-site was implemented to accommodate additional content and a new approach to its presentation.

These files cover the development of the web-site from its handover by Jay Alphey to its next re-design in 2001 including handover documentation, layout tree, access figures, print-outs of content, records of discussions of content for particular areas of the site and a cd snapshot of the site in August 2000.

Including lecture on development of the site, copies of newsletter, site layout and maintenance documentation, print-out of content and instructions for the webmaster.

The College first established a presence on the world wide web at the instigation of the Development Officer, who perceived a need for a dynamic publishing medium which could be updated more rapidly than traditional College publications. Jay Alphey was commissioned to create a web-site for Caius, which went live in May 1995.

This first web-site, entitled the Virtual Caian, was targeted primarily at alumni. It took as its inspiration the name and front cover of the College magazine, The Caian, as well as copying some of its content. The virtual College tour, supported by a photographic project also undertaken by Jay Alphey, allowed Caians around the world to 'visit' the College; and the email directory, Caimail, helped members of the College to keep in touch with one another. Further additions to the content soon reflected a broader range of interest in the web-site. Information was streamed for particular types of user, such as potential applicants and current members, with added signposts to information about particular services, such as the Library and conferences.

These records record the content and design of the web-site as well as the publicity and documentation supporting its use.
