The Archive has only accepted the papers of Caians since the early 1990s. Before that, personal papers were usually offered to the College Library. Papers have only been accepted if they were felt to contain a substantial quantity of college-related information; or, if the College has been felt to be the most appropriate repository for their storage and documentation.

Given the nature of College administration, where Fellows take on roles as officers with particular administrative tasks, the distinction between an official College record and a private filing system can sometimes be blurred. In the case of some committees, or the officers who do not receive secretarial/office support, the 'private' record may be the only surviving record of College business. Where possible, the filing systems of College officers have been classified as part of the official College archive (e.g. Sturdy and Tranchell papers). However, in cases where a Fellow has held more than one office, but has maintained an undifferentiated filing system, it has proved more appropriate to maintain original order and identify the files by person (e.g. Prichard papers). A distinction has also been made in cases where the official file series have already been transferred to the Archive, but supplementary migrant records have been added by personal gift from private record series (e.g. Needham papers are kept distinct from magisterial records).

Papers relating to Brink's membership of College Council and its committees, his duties as Registrary and his teaching responsibilities in Classics. Also containing some material created by Michael James Farrell during his period of office as Registrary.

July 1958 photocopy of letter from Lord McNair to his grandson.

The archive contains personal and professional papers of Lord McNair throughout his life. It also contains papers of other members of his family, which had been stored in the same chests and boxes, and reference material about Lord McNair after his death. There is substantial correspondence belonging to family members, particularly his wife.

Lord McNair's correspondence includes a fair amount of a professional nature from fellow lawyers, some politicians and long-standing friends - these include Lord Macmillan, Lord Wright, Lord Nathan of Churt, Lord Beveridge, Harold Laski, the Earl of Derby, Lord Sankey, President Max Huber and Dag Hammarskjold.

There are also lectures and speeches and reference material covering the whole period of Lord McNair's public career.

The papers consist of agenda, minutes, papers, reports, newsletters, correspondence and invitations relating to Charles Goodhart's role as ex-officio foundation governor to Newport Grammar School, Essex.. He represented Gonville and Caius College as the Master's deputy; the College being connected with the School through a shared Tudor benefactor, Joyce/Jocosa Frankland.

The papers consist of:

• research notes on lists of medieval archdeacons, abbots, and priors

• undergraduate essays

• correspondence and papers relating to research into the history of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge

• speeches and sermons

• papers relating to College administration, mainly the administration of the College Archive, and membership of Chancel Committee, and supervision notes.

Administrative files created in the course of Sturdy's work as Dean and Fellow of Caius; together with his papers, publications, and files relating to his research, teaching and faculty work. Including correspondence with other academics and publishers; research work on his book 'Clement, Ignatius and Polycarp'; research notes and correspondence on Old Testament studies; texts of lectures and talks; preparation for University seminars and teaching; and a collection of menus and orders of proceedings from College events and feasts.

The papers consist of printed material, correspondence and papers relating to Roberts' role as fellow and tutor, including material on religious observance in the College and the administration of the College mission in London.
