The idea of a College diary of contemporary occurrences, known as the annals, was first established by John Caius in his statutes of re-foundation. The original series ended in 1648, except for a single entry regarding a legal dispute in 1848. These volumes appear to be an attempt to revive the idea of College annals, probably as part of the raised awareness of College history which was arising from John Venn's researches into College records.

Statistics for the College admissions process

The Archive collects and accepts donations of items which illustrate a cross-section of College life, and which might not normally survive as part of the official record, for example posters, menu cards, published material about the College or Caians, and artefacts, such as ties and stamps.

Including images of Harvey Court and its gardens, students walking through the Gate of Virtue, Hall, students in the bar, Gonville Court and the Bateman auditorium, a student playing a piano in the Senior Parlour, and a supervision being led by Dr Jo Whaley.

These two bundles of miscellaneous papers are an artificial collection, mainly correspondence, but also off-prints, telegrams and certificates, that at some point have been gathered together and scanned.

Both contained in an album, and loose. Including one group image labelled 'Cambridge crew, 1866', with names pencilled on reverse. Some names annotated in album do not appear to match photos. Some pictures unidentified or noted by nickname only.
