(1911-1979) Scholar of German language and literature. BA, Cambridge 1932. Elected Fellow of Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, 1958-79; College lecturer in German, 1958-65; Director of Studies in Modern and Medieval Languages, 1959-64; Tutor, 1960-65; Senior Tutor, 1961-65. Cambridge University Lecturer in German. Reader in German Renaissance Studies, 1971-75.
