With letter re Reading Room - Oborne Estate and explanatory note, written 1953:
'In 1920 the Oborne Estate (about 577 acres) was advertised for sale by auction, but the Dorset County Council applied to buy it for small holdings, and it was eventually agreed to sell it to them in consideration of an annuity of £950 a year, which was based on a selling price of £18,500, and the auction sale was cancelled. The site of the reading room was only part of the estate which the College reserved. Finding that we have no duplicate or copy of the conveyance I wrote to the Clerk of the Dorset County Council and also the Ministry of Agriculture, and attached is a copy of a letter dated 15th September 1953 from the County Land Agent and a copy of the certificate of annuity which is held by the Ministry of Agriculture. The plan referred to in the letter from the County Land Agent is in a file with the tenancy agreement relating to the reading room.'
