      Note

Indentures (modern day equivalent of a Chirograph!): seems that these were created on a six-monthly basis to confirm the audit, would be carried out with the master presiding “between the master and Fellows” – a bit like holding each other to ransom for their honest accounting. Whereas other account books such as the Compotus give an account of what is going on over certain period of time, CB describes these as more of a ‘photograph’ of the financial situation on that day (CNLB).
